Academic Programs Offered

Master of Science

  • Prelicensure: The Entry Level MSN program is designed for students with a baccalaureate degree in another field; pre-licensure and graduate specialization components are in administration, adult acute care, pediatrics, women’s health, and community health.
  • California RNs with bachelor's degrees in nursing or other disciplines can specialize in administration, adult acute care, pediatrics, women's health, public/community health, or family nurse practitioner.

Post Master's Certificate

  • A post master's family nurse practitioner certificate is offered for California RNs with a master's or doctoral degree in nursing.

  2. Read the SF State Bulletin nursing section for the graduate program that applies to you.

Graduate and Post Master's Certificate Program Fact Sheets

Nursing program fact sheets are intended to serve as a quick, printable reference for prospective students.  These sheets contain program requirements and admission criteria. 

  • If you are considering applying to our Entry Level MSN program, please review the admission criteria and program roadmap on the Fact Sheet.
    Course articulation information for Entry Level MSN nursing prerequisites taken at California community colleges, California State University campuses, and some University of California campuses can be obtained by visiting If your school is not listed on please contact the School of Nursing directly for further guidance.
  • If you are a California RN and are interested in obtaining a MSN degree, please review the Information Sheet for the on-campus RN-MSN Program or the MSN Peninsula Cohort Program (also formerly known as Stanford Cohort).
  • Prospective post master's Family Nurse Practitioner students can obtain information about the Post Master's FNP Certificate by reviewing the program's Fact Sheet.

Attend an Information Session

School of Nursing faculty and staff are available each fall to discuss our programs, admission requirements, and application process at information sessions. We invite prospective students to come have their questions answered.  In lieu of an in-person session, prospective students can view recordings of prior sessions.
