Over 80 Graduates Recognized at Spring Pinning
On May 22, 2017, the SF State School of Nursing recognized the hard work and accomplishments of more than 80 graduates at the Spring Pinning Ceremony. As in years past, the graduates are anxious to start their nursing careers and provide high-quality compassionate care to those in need. The road ahead will be a tough and rewarding one for them, and the School of Nursing will be here for them in support of this new chapter in their lives. We look forward to welcoming these amazing individuals into the growing SF State Nursing alumni community.
CEU Event Focuses on Diabetes Nursing
On May 4, 2017, the Nursing Alumni Association hosted its second independent CEU event on diabetes nursing. The event was made possible by SF State Nursing alumnus Joe Solowiejczyk (BSN ’96), who generously offered his time to share his expertise on this chronic illness and the means of healing it. As a diabetes nurse educator and a family therapist, Joe passionately and humorously led a three-hour event with fellow alums, current students and hospital affiliates on a collaborative discussion on management and coping methods for families and children with T1 diabetes.
Alumni Reconnect at First Open House Event
On Saturday, April 29, 2017 the School of Nursing welcomed back alumni for a day of reconnecting with current students and faculty in its first alumni open house event! The day began with two simulation demonstrations conducted with student briefings and commentary from alumni, followed by a gathering in the skills laboratory where students and faculty had the chance to show alumni some of the tools they use in their current nursing curriculum. Nearly 30 alumni attended, representing a range of SF State nursing graduates from 1961 to 2016.
